Battle between methods

In the modern internet, the two main navigation methods (navigating and searching) play an important role. Yet the battle between site navigation and search box still continues to have taken place. Web owners appear to underestimate either the search box power or believe it can solve any Ux navigation dilemma and difficulty by putting a search box on their website.

For the performance of a Web site, good navigation and good link layout are important. Browsing is the main means of browsing millions of websites. But it can be very challenging for organized navigation to overcome UX problems for a growing website. Data also show that visitors are getting easier to find new content and navigate big sites via a search interface. The polls show that 50% of users enter the search bar immediately as they reach a website.

Search and navigating habits

People using the search box know what they want — even as basic as a product name. Navigators are seeking more material in connection. Users using the quest are frequently in the late phase of shopping where they accumulate all the information they feel needed and determine which items they can purchase.

Search helps users to monitor their own behaviour and to discover what they want; attempts at navigation to direct users to their destination.

Statistically, it is more likely that women will scroll, while men will use a search bar (men are “hunters” and women are “browsers” online).

The search capability on their mobiles is most much used only by individuals. The dynamic navigation on mobile devices seldom works well because people don’t. You type the search term easily and go to the resulting website immediately.

If you want a logical place to go next, you sometimes switch to the sites search feature while you’re lost in navigation. Search is the user’s escape.

Analyzing the above, one can infer that each website has different types of users and good design and that UX is to cater to them all. This definition is seen in the picture below. Good design will provide the most elements from both designs (Design 1: search users where search pages play a prominent role and design 2: search pads for searching users without any search box). It does not narrow or aim to reach anyone user community.
