Pinduoduo

Pinduoduo is now China’s hottest online shopping trend. It launched in 2015 and after two years, it became a hit with its GMV hitting $15 million.

Thus, it had the fastest growth for a social commerce site in China. But why is this the case? Well, for one good reason.

Pinduoduo chose not to compete in areas where the big players like Alibaba are at. It focused on tier III and tier IV cities. That is why they took off so well.

So, what is Pinduoduo doing? The most known feature is their group buying. With this, they let users buy items at a discounted price when they buy them as a group.

Also, they have games with real-life rewards, gifts, and offer discounts from time to time.

XiaoHongShu (Red)

Red is China’s Amazon, Instagram, and Pinterest in one. It started as a social media site since its release in 2013. It lets users share their overseas shopping tips.

Also, they can share their reviews on fashion and beauty products. Then, after a year, they made a move to social commerce. Thus, rolling out a feature for it.

How? They feature popular posts and items with strong engagements. Thus, playing well with the power of word-of-mouth.

Also, it lets users share their content to other platforms.
