Most Popular Social Commerce Platforms

The most popular social commerce platforms have made the social shopping experience more user-friendly and pleasing for consumers. Furthermore, even brands have benefited from social commerce as they can now promote and sell products much easier. This article lists down the most popular social commerce platforms you can leverage in your business’s favor.

Instagram

This platform has always had an advantage among other platforms due to its visual nature. Many brands prefer Instagram as displaying products on this platform has never been easier. Thus, this is the perfect medium for visual storytelling. Instagram now acts as a social commerce platform with its “Shoppable Posts” feature.

Instagram didn’t allow for pure social commerce before. If you clicked on a Shoppable Post, it will redirect you to the website of the seller. However, that changed when Instagram has upgraded Shoppable Posts and have included an in-app checkout feature. Thus, customers no longer need to leave Instagram to make a purchase.

Facebook

Facebook Shops enable sellers to create a customizable store from which consumers can shop within Facebook and Instagram. Moreover, Shops has a messaging button that allows customers to communicate with brands through Facebook Messenger, Instagram, and WhatsApp.

Due to the pandemic, we’ve seen an increase in the number of sellers using Facebook’s live stream to sell. Facebook is looking at allowing customers to buy directly from a live stream.

Pinterest

Pinterest isn’t just a social media platform. They also have a visual discovery engine, Lens, that works with shoppable Product Pins. Pinterest’s algorithm suggests items that might interest the user. Furthermore, these suggestions contain a direct link to a retailer’s checkout. Additionally, Pinterest offers Shop the Look ads that allow merchants to feature up to 25 items in a single ad.

Snapchat

Snapchat has not particularly focused on social commerce. However, the platform’s AR lenses have opened many social commerce possibilities. AR lenses enable users to virtually try on any type of clothing, such as make-up and sunglasses. According to Snapchat, AR lenses have more than 170 million users daily. However, you still need to click outside of the platform to buy the product.

TikTok

TikTok is a relatively new player in social commerce but has been making trials in this area. Hence, it has earned a spot as one of the most popular social commerce platforms. The video-sharing platform has already inked a global partnership with Shopify. Sellers in Shopify can now implement TikTok marketing campaigns directly from the Shopify dashboard.

On the other hand, TikTok is on the trial stage of implementing a new shopping button that allows Tiktok creators to link their Shopify storefront from their videos.

WeChat

WeChat has a massive contribution to the growth of social selling. One of the key drivers of WeChat’s success is its mini-programs. They enable users to share e-Commerce related content and shopping experiences.

Furthermore, users can make purchases and communicate with WeChat sellers. Moreover, WeChat enables users to share products with their friends and family. The entire shopping journey happens in WeChat.
